AN ENAMELED POWDER-BLUE GLAZED JAR AND COVER

of squat baluster shape, the body decorated in reserve with alternate leaf and shaped panels on a blown powder-blue ground, the panels painted in deep cobalt blue with enamel highlights of green, yellow, iron-red and gilt with rockwork issuing peony, prunus blossom and chrysanthemum, one of the shaped panels with a phoenix, the other with a pheasant, the panels with traces of a gilt surround, all below a rounded shoulder and tall neck that fades to a white glaze at the rim and interior, supported on an unglazed wide wedge-shaped foot ring and white glazed flat base, the cover similarly decorated below a knop finial.


11 1/2in (29.2cm) high

There appears to have been an oval-shaped break to one side that has been re-stuck (approx. 6in x 4in) and that also has a hairline crack tail running from it upwards towards the rim (approx. 7 1/2in) but not reaching it. There is a chip to the cover rim exterior (approx 3/8in). Garland and Morgan collection labels are adhered to the base and interior cover respectively.
