AN IMPERIAL PRESENTATION GOLD CIGARETTE CASE, WORKMASTER EDUARD SCHRAMM, ST PETERSBURG, PROBABLY FOR FABERGÉ, BEFORE 1899 the surface quartered in alternating sections of reeding and samorodok texture, the lid applied with an Imperial crown, cabochon sapphire thumbpiece, the end with vesta compartment, struck with workmaster's initials, 56 standard width: 9cm, 3 1/2 in.

According to family tradition, this case was sent by HIM Emperor Nicholas II (1868-1918) to HIRH German Crown Prince Wilhelm (1882-1951) on the occasion of the christening of his eldest son, HIRH Prince Wilhelm, 1906.

Thence by descent

Notes

The Emperor was one of ten sponsors of the newborn prince, along with the kings of Great Britain, Norway and Italy, but could not attend the ceremony, held in the Marmorgalerie of the Neuen Palace, Potsdam on 29 August 1906.
