Notes

The composition shown in the present drawing is extremely similar to that of a signed painting sold at Sotheby's, New York, 25 January 2011, lot 47. The sketchy quality of the draughtsmanship, with the loose and patchy rendition of the leaves in wash, can be found in other works by the artist, such as the series of very comparable drawings by Hackaert in Hamburg (A.-M. Stefes, Niederländische Zeichnungen 1450:1850, Cologne, 2011, nos. 405.1-25).
