AN UNUSUAL IRIDESCENT PALE-LAVENDER-GLAZED JUN-TYPE LOBED JAR

Qing Dynasty

The globular body divided into eight lobes with four vertical ribs, below a raised band at the shoulder and a hollowed torus-form neck, a shallow raised band at the tapering foot, all under a viscous glaze with shifting tones of lavender with subtle celadon and purple shades, the glaze pooling in tears at the unglazed foot ring, the convex base lavender glazed.

Condition Report

Generally, in good overall condition. The glaze pooling unevenly at the foot ring but usual with this ware. Minor kiln imperfections and minute air bubble pinpricks but unobtrusive. Recommended.

The Colman gift included a wide variety of both Chinese and Japanese ceramics. The former ranging from the Han dynasty through the Tang, Song (that included at least six Jun-type vessels), Ming and Qing dynasties. The Japanese ceramics included Raku ware and other thickly glazed vessels from a variety of kilns.
