ANATJARI TJAMPITJINPA CIRCA 1927-1999 TINGARI EVENTS AT PANMAPALINYA 1982 121 by 75.5 cm Synthetic polymer paint on linen Bears Papunya Tula Artists catalogue number AT820539 on the reverse Provenance: Painted in June 1982 at Kintore for Papunya Tula Artists, Alice Springs Private collection, Western Australia This painting is sold with the accompaning certificate from Papunya Tula Artists, Alice Springs that reads: 'This painting relates to the Tingari events associated with a site in Western Australia called Panmapalinya. This is a hilly outcrop with waterholes due west and about 80 miles from Sandy Blight Junction. Tingari is the ancient and secret post- initiatory higher education undergone by Aboriginal men of the region The elements of the painting are mnemonic for sung verses and also represent topographical features of the locality'.
