Description

Andre Foy (French, 1886 - 1953) Oil on Board "Le Masque Jaume" c. 1920. Signed lower right. In caved and painted French Frame measures 21 1/2"x18"x1 1/2". Weight 3 pds 6 oz. Andre Foy was known as a artist, illustrator, stage sets and costume designer. He exhibited at numerous group exhibitions in Paris, including the Salon des Artistes Independets of whic he bacame a member in 1914, the Salon de l'Araignee which he founded in 1920 with his friends Jen-Gabriel Daragned and Gus Bofa and which had a considerabe influence on many French illustrators. He also exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in 1935, the Musee du Petit Palais in 1938 and at the Salon des Humoristes. He became vice president of the Salon de l'Imagerie. PROVENANCE: A Private Paris, France / Charleston SC Estate.
