Andrei Filippov is an important Moscow Conceptual artist whose works address the discourses of history and religion, interweaving signs and symbols of bygone empires such as the Soviet Union, Byzantium, and Rome, along with the iconography of Imperial Russia. In many of his works, word and image play a role of equal significance.
