Notes

The Russian artist Karelin opened his own photography and painting portrait studio in 1869. He made landscape and genre studies, as well as commissioned portraits and received awards from exhibitions in Vienna, Paris and Edinburgh, as well as in his native land. Albums of his photographs are held by the State Historical Museum, Moscow.
