Drawing inspiration from his extensive world travel British contemporary artist, Andrew Hewkin, has been creating large scale artwork for more than 40 years, and has produced paintings of nearly 70 countries.
As a student in the 1960s Hewkin was immersed in a time of change, when the influence of popular culture was seen throughout the Arts, in music, theatre, film and in artwork. An artist who is known for capturing the moment, his vibrant works draw on the principles of pop culture and abstraction to create surreal and captivating paintings.
Collected widely by private buyers and public institutions alike, Hewkin has, over the years, been commissioned by international companies including Cartier, British Airways and Baring Securities, as well as having works in private collections including those of celebrities such as David Bowie, Brian May, Jack Nicolson, Sir Michael Caine and the Royal Family.
He began exhibiting in London's Mayfair in 1973 and has exhibited in London every year until recently. His work has been seen in Munich, Zagreb, Vienna, Marbella, South of France, Cape Town and regularly in Barbados including a retrospective at Sandy Lane in 2003, and his latest exhibition at St Peter's Bay, which ended in February this year.
