Notes

Montegani was a pupil of Enrico Butti at the Brera Academy in Milan, where he was to spend the greater part of his career. Aside from the usual commissions for memorials in the Monumentale or in the Duomo, he executed a number of impressive monuments such as the towering memorial to Caduti in Lecco consisting of an obelisk-like marble statue and disposing a relief of almost free-standing bronze figures around the base. A bronze memorial to the celebrated pilot Emilio Pensuti, installed into the wall of the veteran's home and inaugurated in 1922, shows Montegani's similar treatment of the human form. His Bambino malato is conserved in the Galeria d'Arte Moderna in Milan.
