Annette Kelm lives and works in Berlin. Her photographic work portrays uncanny elements of everyday places, situations and moments. Contrary to their apparent simplicity and reduced aesthetic, Kelm's works spark off a chain reaction of associations and draw upon the rich vocabulary of the history of painting, sculpture and - particularly - photography. Recent solo exhibitions include Annette Kelm, Kunsthalle, Zürich (2009); Annette Kelm, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2009); The Passengers, CCA Wattis, San Francisco (2008); Errors in English, Art Cologne Prize for Young Artists, Artothek, Cologne (2006); and New Talents, Art Cologne, Cologne (2005). Recent group shows include Preis der Nationalgalerie für Junge Kunst, Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (2009); Re-Used Modernity, Brussels Biennial, Brussels (2009); The Possible Document, Herald St. Gallery, London (2008); The History of a Decade That Has Not Yet Been Named, Lyon Biennial, Lyon (2007); Anything You Want, Pump House Gallery, London (2007); Gold Standard, PS1, New York (2006); New Ghost Entertainment-Entitled, Or Gallery, Vancouver (2006); Having New Eyes, Aspen Art Museum, Aspen (2006); A Lovers Discourse, Peres Projects, Los Angeles (2006); and Don Quijote, Witte de With, Rotterdam (2006). In 2008 Witte de With presented a solo exhibition of Annette Kelm's work.
