2 o (438 x 299 mm). Engraved frontispiece, engraved title and 50 engraved hand-colored plates by G. B”hm after Antoine. Contemporary half cloth, spine gilt lettered (light wear to edges). Provenance : Massachusetts Horticultural Society, Stickney Fund (bookplate dated 1895; stamps). FIRST EDITION, with magnificent illustrations of 51 peach types on 50 plates (Nissen calls for only 49) by the imperial horticulturist at Vienna and father of Franz Antoine junior, director of the Sch”nbrunn gardens near Vienna. Nissen BBI 40; Staflau & Cowan TL2 141 (note).
