Frederick the Great (1712-1786), King of Prussia 1740-1786, three-quarter length in the uniform of the Prussian Life Guards, red-lined blue coat with red collar, black trousers, grey sash tied around his waist, silvered aiguillettes, wearing yellow gloves, his sword beside him and a cane, wearing the breast-star of the Royal Prussian Order of the Black Eagle, black tricorn hat adorned with black rosette in his powdered hair
rectangular, 2 1/8 x 3 in. (55 x 76 mm.), gilt-metal mount within an ebonized wood frame

Two similar signed miniatures are illustrated in the exhibition catalogue Kaiserlicher Kunstbesitz, Berlin, Charlottenburg Castle, 1991, nos. 55 and 56, and again in the exhibition catalogue Friedrich der Große, Munich, Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung, 1992-1993, nos. 43 and 44.
