The present drawing is a good example of the subtle efficacy of Shemza's technical skills. He often used unconventional techniques to achieve his distinctive textures. In this work he has dipped muslin in ink (he would also often use gouache for this purpose), laid it down on the painting surface, covered it with newspaper and stamped on it with flip-flops.
