Arthur Douglas Peppercorn R.I., R.O.I., N.E.A.C. (1847-1924), Brownsea Island - Poole Harbour, signed, with gallery label on verso - 'Calton Gallery, Edinburgh', oil on canvas, 40 x 50cm.; 15.75 x 19.75in, together with exhibition catalogue (2). Provenance: From an exhibition of works by the artist at the Calton Gallery, Edinburgh in September 1989, No.17. * Studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1870 under Gerome. Exhibited from 1869 at the Royal Academy, Society of British Artists-Suffolk Street and elsewhere; also held one man shows at the Goupil Galleries. In 1926 a memorial exhibition of his work was held at the Leicester Galleries.
