Arthur Esam (b.1850; Active c.1881-1896) Bush Horse Race, 1895 Watercolour Signed "A. Esam", lower left & dated 95 21 x 51cm From September 1881 to August 1882, Esam was a member of an exploring party which went into the interior. By 1893 he was secretary of a brewery in Coolgardie. Later he joined the staff of the Kalgoorlie Miner. The Battye Library of WA has a scene by him dated 1894 depicting the gold escort from Kalgoorlie. This, 1895 work depicts a country horse race outside a slab hut hotel with a typically mixed attendant crowd.
