The painting was acquired by the Club in 1988 and shows visitors leaving the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition of 1932. They include significant figures of the day, and interestingly Nowell has portrayed himself in the crowd.

At the top of the stairs is the President of the RA, Sir William Llewellyn, bidding farewell to a lady with Walter Russell (Keeper of the RA) and Sir David Murray RA by his side. Among others in the crowd descending the staircase are the Dowager Countess of Airlie, Lord Hayter of Chislehurst (of the Chubb lock family), Dr Still, Arthur and Edmund Wimperis, Sir Maurice Jenks (Lord Mayor of London), Miss Draper (daughter of the artist Herbert James Draper),Miss Purcell, the theologian William Inge, Elizabeth Haldane (first woman JP for Scotland and Manager of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary), the Rt Hon Sir Ernest Pollock (Master of the Rolls), Felix Schuster (Governor of the Union Bank), the Duchess of Hamilton and John Collie, the eminent Professor of chemistry.
