Description

[ART] C. Jac Young (1880-1940) German born American artist. Born with the name of Charles Jacob Jung, and an etcher and painter, he exhibited under C Jac Jung until about 1919 when he took the last name of Young. He came to the United States around 1881 and studied in New York at the Academy of Design with Robert Henri, Charles Yardley Turner, and Edgar Melville Ward. Exhibitions include: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts annual, 1913, 1916, 1918 (as Jung); Panama-Pacific Exposition, 1915 (as C Jac Jung); Corcoran Gallery of Art, 1916 (as Jung); Society of Independent Artists, 1917 (as Jung); Brooklyn Society of Etchers...etc. Signed [endorsed on verso] 1931 bank check. The check was made out & signed by fellow artist Douglas Volk (1856-1935) American portrait and figure painter, muralist, and educator. He taught at the Cooper Union, the Art Students League of New York, and was one of the founders of the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts. He and his wife Marion established a summer artist colony in western Maine. His father was Leonard Volk who Lincoln posed for in 1860. VG.
