Attributed to ABRAHAM PIETERSZ. VAN CALRAET (Dutch, 1642-1722) Hay Harvest Oil on wood panel 20 x 25-3/4 inches (50.8 x 65.4 cm) PROVENANCE: Collection of the Marquis de Salamanca, until 1867; Paris, Catalogue des Tableaux Anciens, des écoles Espanola, Italienne, Flamande & Hollandaise, composant la gallerie de M. le Mis. de Salamanca, June 3, 1867, lot 82, sold for 620 francs; Collection of Miklos Rozsa, Hollywood, California (as Aelbert Cuyp) by 1975; Edwin A. Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas, gift of Miklos Rozsa in December 1975 (as Aelbert Cuyp); Acquired by present owner in 2003 when deaccessioned from museum. LITERATURE: C. H.de Groot, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of the Most Eminent Dutch Painters of the Seventeenth Century, London, 1909, vol. 2, no. 64A, as Aelbert Cuyp; Edwin A. Ulrich Museum of Art: Catalogue of the Collection, Wichita, 1980, p. 49, (acc. no. 75.39.1), as Aelbert Cuyp. The painting was previously initialed "A. C." at lower right but signature has been removed during cleaning. The lot is accompanied by letters of authentication from Dr. Walter Bernt dated March 24, 1954. We are grateful to the curatorial staff of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie, The Hague, for their generous assistance and guidance in attributing this lot to the hand of Abraham van Calraet.
