Notes

Fred Meijer of the RKD saw the present work in 2006 and believed it to be stylistically close to the work of Jan Davidsz. de Heem (1606-1683) (correspondence dated 18 August 2006). He compares it stylistically to the works of this master that date from 1642-1643 and suggests that it was probably by a talented student in the artist's workshop, possibly assisted by de Heem himself. Alexander Coosemans was one such talented student who went on to become an independent master. Many of his works have subsequently been attributed to both Jan Davidsz. and his son, Cornelis de Heem.
