Description

(North Carolina/South Carolina, 1895 - 1972) Very nicely rendered portrait of a Mountain woman, likely of the North Carolina Appalachians. The piece has been re-lined and professionally conserved. H23 1/2" W19 1/2" The current owner's father passed the piece down to her. He stated that well known art dealer Robert Hicklin of Charleston, South Carolina attributed the piece for him to Eugene Thomason many years ago.

Neither Wooten & Wooten nor the consignors makes any guarantees, warranties or representations, expressed or implied, with respect to the property sold. All items are available for your examination prior to bidding and we recommend that prospective bidders, or their agent, inspect all items in which they have an interest and satisfy themselves as to the origin and condition of the item. Wooten & Wooten does not give refunds. ALL SALES ARE FINAL.

Written and oral descriptions are the opinions of Wooten & Wooten staff and consultants and are in no way a guarantee of any kind to the accuracy of the catalogue description or condition reports provided. BIDDING
We offer absentee bidding, telephone bidding and Internet bidding. Internet bidding is available through Invaluable is subject to an additional 5% charge added to our 20% buyers premium. All new bidders will be required to pre-register with Wooten & Wooten, and returning bidders will be asked to sign and complete a new bid form with each sale. No lot will be sold for less than half of the low estimate. Wooten & Wooten reserves the right to bid as agent on behalf of the seller. Wooten & Wooten staff, consultants, family and friends reserve the right to bid competitively at all auctions.

The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer and will assume full risk and responsibility for the property, including prompt payment and pick- up. The auctioneer has the sole right to re-open a lot and/or settle disputed bids, and the record kept by Wooten & Wooten will be seen as final. Wooten & Wooten reserves the right to reject any bid. All absentee bids are executed by Wooten & Wooten staff, and/or via Invaluable, as a convenience and we are not responsible for any errors or omissions.

PAYMENT
Payment is due within 14 days of the auction. Failure to remit payment within this timeline may result in the cancellation of the sale. Payment may be made in the form of cash, check, wire transfer, cashiers check, Visa or Mastercard. Personal checks from first time buyers must be accompanied by a letter of introduction from their banking institution. All invoices over $1,000 must be paid in wire transfer or cashier's check. Your bid is your agreement to pay hammer price, as well as a 20% buyer's premium and 8% South Carolina sales tax. Successful bidders paying by credit card will be subject to an additional 3% surcharge. Successful internet bidders shall pay an additional 5% fee. Invoices must be paid in full in order for any lot to leave the gallery.

ENDANGERED SPECIES
Objects made of or incorporating plant or animal materials such as ivory, tortoiseshell, whalebone, etc. can require a license or certificate prior to exportation and additional licenses/certificates upon importation to another state or country. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to secure any licenses or certificates, and Wooten and Wooten will not assistant in the process nor can we guarantee that you will be able to obtain them. Your bid indicates that you agree to comply with any and all domestic / international restrictions on the trade of endangered species and that you will pay for successful lots regardless of whether you are able to obtain the proper license or certificate. Wooten & Wooten suggests that you secure the proper import/export license or certificates in your state or country prior to bidding and contact a shipper.
