Item Overview

Description

Attributed to Henri Alexandre Georges Regnault, French 1843-1871- Study for Juan Prim, October 8, 1868; oil on canvas, bears inscription on the stretcher, in a simulated tortoiseshell and ebonised ripple moulded frame, 45.5x38cm Note: The present work is a study for Regnault's full-length portrait of General Juan Prim of 1869 titled 'ArrivÚe du gÚnÚral Juan Prim Ó cheval devant Madrid Ó la tÛte des insurgÚs de la rÚvolution espagnole de 1868', which is held by the MusÚe d'Orsay in Paris, RF21. The loose and confidant execution of the present work suggests that it is almost certainly a study by the hand of Henri Regnault. Provenance: Private collection, Switzerland since 1920.
