Notes

THE PROPERTY OF A GENTLEMAN
We are grateful to Fred G. Meijer of the R.K.D., The Hague, for suggesting an attribution to Jan Baptist Weenix on the basis of photographs. This lovely portrait of a young peasant girl may be compared with the artist's Portrait of a Young Girl as a Shepherdess, in Musée de Picardie (inv. no. M.P. Lav. 1894.62).υ1 1. See J.B. Bedaux and R. Ekkart (eds.), Kinderen op hun mooist. Het Kinderportret in de Nederlanden 1500-1700, exhibition catalogue, Amsterdam 2000, pp. 206-7, cat. no. 52, reproduced.
