PROVENANCE

NOTE

Jan de Maere has kindly suggested an alternative attribution to Guillaume Forchondt the Younger (1608(?)-1678). According to De Maere, Forchondt was influenced by Jan Thomas, who worked for the Forchondt family dealing concern. Small coppers such as this were easy to transport and were thus often painted for export, for example to Spain, where the Forchondts had a branch, and onward to the Spanish colonies in the New World.
