Attributed to Jean-Robert Ango (active 1759-1770) bacchantes worshipping at an altar. Bears inscription: H.Roberti/Roma MDCCLVII. Black chalk. 202 by 289mm. Very little is known of Ango's life, but he was a prolific draftsman, usually working in red or black chalks. Although many of his surviving drawings are copies after the Old Masters, some are after his contemporaries such as Fragonard and Hubert Robert.
