Canvas not lined. Two repaired tears with corresponding patches on reverse: the first on the sitter's ear; the second above the left breast; another very small puncture left off head is only crudely covered with tape on reverse; the canvas is buckling over the repaired areas; some areas of flaking along the lower edge; stretcher marks along the edges; pigment separation around the head; very dark, dirty and dull varnish. Under ultraviolet light: opaque varnish; no visible inpainting.
