The actual painting shows more contrast and is a bit less colorful. The canvas has been relined (wax). The painted surface seems to be in a rather good condition and is covered with a dirty and discolored varnish layer. Some thinness can be observed in both lower right and left corners, some others in the dark area in the background possibly due to the relining. A minor surface scratch can be observed below the Madonna‘s left arm. We notice some minor paint losses along the edges due to the framing. Some strenghtenings can be observed in the stone pedestal on the right. Under the UV light The varnish layer fluoresces largely with different areas of fluorescence, more opaque around the edges. The dark area of the composition in between of the figure shows some craquelures. Offered with a carved and giltwood frame. Le tableau est en réalité plus contrasté que sur l’illustration au catalogue. Le tableau a fait l’objet d’un rentoilage (à la cire). La couche picturale semble en état satisfaisant et est recouverte d’un vernis sale et jauni. On observe quelques usures dans les angles inférieurs droit et gauche, ainsi que dans les parties sombres en arrière-plan, peut-être dues au rentoilage. On remarque de légères griffures sous le bras gauche de la Vierge et quelques légers manques le long des bords, dus au cadre. On note aussi des restaurations dans le piédestal en pierre à droite. A la lampe UV Le vernis est principalement opaque, tout particulièrement le long des bords. On observe quelques craquelures dans les parties sombres de la composition, entre les personnages. Dans un cadre en bois sculpté et doré.
