Notes

THE PROPERTY OF A GENTLEMAN (LOTS 355, 360-62, 371, 375, 380-81 & 384)
No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 15% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
We are grateful to Nicole Willk-Brocard who, on the basis of a photograph, drew our attention to similarities with Hallé's study of a girl, probably his daughter Catherine-Charlotte-Geneviève, peering from behind a curtain (N. Willk-Brocard, Une dynastie: Les Hallé, Paris, 1995, p. 535, no. 636, illustrated). The present drawing may also show the artist's daughter, waking from her sleep.
