Literature: One of the most-promising students of Wilder Darling in Toledo, Ohio, Jesse Deviney became a skilled impressionist and post-impressionist painter who much benefitted from Darling's extensive study in Europe. During the day, DeViney worked at his company, the DeViney Wrought Iron Works and painted in his spare time, devoting himself increasingly to his artwork after his family was grown. He never had formal training beyond Darling's guidance, but his competence earned him a place at the Annual Exhibition of the Toledo Museum of Art from 1918 to 1941.
