NOTE

Balraj Khanna began as a painter of tormented landscapes, and then moved on to large figure compositions with a pronounced erotic element. The two works here are from this stage in his career. The artist's continuing interest in the sea steadily moved him away from the world of observed appearances and more towards the a primordial region as conveyed in the previous lot. (Richard Cork)
