folio (297 x 203mm.), 195, [13]pp., illustration : woodcut cartouche on title containing first two words, woodcut device on title and final verso, woodcut headpieces (some elaborately geometric) and initials, woodcut diagrams, binding : later speckled calf tooled in blind, spine gilt in compartments with morocco lettering-piece, wormholes in gutter (only affecting a few letters), occasional slight staining, extremities slightly rubbed

Notes

first edition, mixed issue. The first edition of this book can be composed of titles and colophons with the date 1568 and 1569 in any combination. There is another variant of the first edition with an elaborate woodcut title with no date.

Some of the woodcut illustrations are taken from Francesco de' Franceschi's edition of Serlio (1566), which was dedicated to Daniele Barbaro, and another illustration is a close copy of one of Dürer's.
