Lot 72: Bartholomeus Molenaer (?-1650 Haarlem)

Peasants by a building with an apple seller oil on panel 13 x 10 1/8 in. (33 x 25.8 cm.) NOTES Bartholomeus Molenaer, the brother of Jan Miense, is recorded as being a member of the Guild of Haarlem in 1640. While both Bartholomeus and his brother's early work resembled the early peasant genre scenes of Adriaen van Ostade, only Bartholomeus carried on painting in this way, his brother moving closer to Dirck Hals in style. Because of this many of his works have been attributed van Ostade.
