NOTE

Battista Dossi, the younger brother of Dosso, was in the service of the court of Ferrara for the majority of his career. The brothers collaborated on a number of works such as the frescoes in the Villa Imperiale, Pesaro and on the frescoes in the Trent Castle.

Dossi's addition of a book in this composition, the book of Wisdom, distinguishes this work as a Mater Sapientiae, or Mother of Wisdom.
