NOTE

Voluptuary, a gelding by Cremorne out of Miss Evelyn was foaled in 1878 and owned by Mr. H.F. Boyd. The horse had a prosperous early career winning the Grand National and he expanded on his vocation on the Drury Lane stage. This second career as an actor brought him onstage nightly in a performance of The Prodigal Daughter where he jumped over a water jump as his rider fell off into the water.

In this work, Voluptuary is being ridden by the famous amateur jockey, Edward P. Wilson. Voluptuary and Wilson won their first Grand National in 1884. Mr. Wilson is recorded as having ridden in nearly every Grand National from 1873 to 1891. His last ride was on his first time winner, Voluptuary, in 1891.
