Benjamin Katz (b. 1939)
A native of Antwerp, Benjamin Katz moved to Berlin at the age of 17. Here, he studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste. In 1963, at his first gallery opening, works by Georg Baselitz were seized by the German public prosecution department because of indecent content. Katz remained being active as a gallery owner and he is still a close friend of Georg Baselitz. In 1972, he moved to Cologne, where he worked as a chronicler and essayist. Since 1976, he works as a self-employed photographer. He is mainly known for his photographs of art and culture events. From 2006 until 2008, he taught photography at the Art Academy of Düsseldorf. He took part in a number of national and international exhibitions with his photographs. (amb)
