A vibrant Regionalist still life of bluebonnets in a multicolor vase. This painting retains the Popular Dry Goods Inc. El Paso label. The Popular Dry Goods department store was organized in 1902 by Adolph Schwartz. It was the largest locally-owned retail store in El Paso until its closure in 1995. Providing jobs and "high fashion" to both sides of the border, the store remained a cultural economic force in El Paso for ninety-three years. Most El Paso artists showed or sold their art through the store.
