*Bernardino Poccetti (1548-1612) two heads of little boys. Red chalk. 137 by 208mm. Provenance: A. Maggiori (L. 3005b, bears his inscription: Alesso Maggiori Compro in Roma nel 1808); Carlo Argentieri (L.486b); Pier Giulio Breschi (L.2079b). Exhibited: Sarasota, Ringling Museum, The Bick Collection of Italian Religious Drawings, 1970, cat.45. The attribution to Poccetti was first made by Philip Pouncey. The drawing could be related to one of the children's heads in his fresco of The Massacre of the Innocents in the Ospedale degli Innocenti, Florence (see A. Venturi, La Storia dell' Arte Italiana, vol ix, part vii, Nendeln 1967, fig. 337).
