Item Overview

Description

BERND STEINER (1884-1933)
Wiener Mode.
Using 18th-Century couture to promote contemporary chic may seem a bit counterproductive. However, in Steiner's capable hands, this triumvirate of well-bustled women create magnetic commercial potential for the 'Viennese Fashion' magazine, putting forth the timeless notion that comportment is just as vital as the clothes one wears. Steiner was for a time the art director for Bremen's City Theater and in 1919 began doing posters for Motor magazine and became the house graphic designer for Norddeutscher Lloyd in the 1920s. He died in Vienna in 1933.
