Item Overview

Description

30" x 46", signed, original ornate frame. Schneider worked in Munich with Oswald Aschenbach, before moving to Milwaukee in 1884 to work for a company painting panoramas. The American Panorama Company, managed by William Wehner, hired a staff of artists, including Schneider, Franz Biberstein, and Richard Lorenz, to paint large commissions, such as Logan’s Great Battle and The Battle of Atlanta. Schneider settled in Cedarburg, just outside of Milwaukee, and remained a bachelor throughout his life. There was a retrospective exhibition of his work in Milwaukee in 1942, and his work was included in the Centennial exhibition of Wisconsin art.
