Description

BLAZICEK Oldrich (5. 1. 1887 Slavkovice in Moravia - 3. 5. 1953 Prague) Village Dvoriste near Bystrice Oil on cardboard, 70 x 105 cm, framed, glazed, undated [1930s], signed lower left. The Bohemian-Moravian Highlands was one of Blazicek's favourite places. His open-air painting is extremely vivid but also follows the characteristic structure and composition of the place. This painting belongs to the best examples of Blazicek's painterly qualities and reflects his intimate relationship towards this landscape. Czech landscape painter, he studied under V. Masek, J. Preisler and J. Schikaneder at the Academy of Decorative Arts in Prague and then under H. Schwaiger at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts. He travelled widely, he was mainly concerned with open air landscape painting and architecture, he is known for his paintings of the St. Vitus Cathedral and the Bohemian-Moravian highlands. He belongs to leading figures of the post-Impressionist stream in Czech landscape painting. See T 1/70,2/755, TD 29, V 1/229, Ch 1/177, NECVU 1/74.
