Boardman Robinson (Amer. 1875-1952) "Tug of War" American painter, illustrator and cartoonist, Boardman Robinson studied at the Massachusetts School of Art, Boston and Paris. After 4 years of painting in San Francisco, he went to NYC and became the illustrator and cartoonist for the Morning Telegraph (1907- 1910) and for the Tribune. He went with John Reed to the Balkans and Russia and served as a War Correspondent. Upon his return he contributed cartoons to various journals and was for several years at the Art Students League, where he gained a great following as a teacher. He was famous for his murals that decorate Rockefeller Center, NYC and the Department of Justice Building. This work is a fantastic scene of 2 men at the tug of war game. Signed lower right corner.
