A slightly smaller closely related example was sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 28υth October 1992, lot 546; another from the estate of Geoffrey C. Hughes was sold in our New York rooms, 27υth November 1991, lot 175; and a slightly larger box was sold at Christie's New York, 30υth March 2005, lot 125. The circular shou character represents the wish for longevity as well as completeness (yuanman).
