Description

Viney hill looking toward the River Severn from the forest of Dean, Blakeney village in the middle distance signed and dated 'BONOMI E WARREN./1892.' (lower right) pencil and watercolour, with gum arabic, heightened with bodycolour 123/4 x 23 in. (32.5 x 58.5 cm.) PROVENANCE A gift from the artist to the grandmother of the present owner. NOTES Bonomi Warren came from a family of artists. His father Henry Warren painted oriental subjects and his brother Edmund George Warren painted woodland subjects in a style which influenced Bonomi. He exhibited twenty watercolours at The Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street, including views in Surrey and works entitled Where the Blackbird Builds and Sings and A Shady Beechwood. He also exhibited two woodland subjects at the Royal Academy.
