Item Overview

Description

* Charles Dickens artwork. A collection of eighteen well-executed illustrations of characters from A Christmas Carol, Bleak House, A Tale of Two Cities, Our Mutual Friend, Dombey & Son, and other works by Dickens, being copies of the series of Dickens illustrations produced by Frederick Barnard (1846-1896), watercolour on paper, each titled & signed "F. Dallas" and dated 1916 or 1917, 170 x 120 mm, all individually framed and glazed, together with two watercolour portraits of Charles Dickens young and old, a silhouette portrait, a view of Gads Hill Place, a view of Dickens' study at Gads Hill, and views of Dicken's birthplace and tomb, all by the same hand, these unframed. Excellent copies from the series of illustrations of Dickens characters by Frederick Barnard, perhaps the best-known Dickens illustrator after Hablot Knight Browne, who was commissioned by Chapman & Hall to illustrate nine of the twenty volumes of the Household Edition of Dicken's works and later illustrated the "Character Sketches from Dickens". We have found no information relating to the artist F. Dallas. (25)
