Notes

The Venetian artist, merchant and writer Boschini began work on his survey of Crete in 1645, the year that Crete was invaded by the Turks (one of the plates depicts the siege of Candia, modern Heraklion, by the Turks). He also published works on rates of exchange and Venetian art.
