In a letter dated February 12, 1999, Dr. Dittrich of the Kupferstichkabinett Dresden assessed the present sheet as an excellent work by Andries Both. He dates the creation of the sheet back to ca. 1640 and compares it to a drawing held by the Kabinett (inv. no. 1244).
