Braby (Dorothea, 1909-1987). Four sketchbooks comprising the preparatory work for The Labyrinth of the World, pub. Golden Cockerel Press, 1950, together four sketchbooks, each containing numerous pencil drawings and sketches, some with gouache colouring, orig. cloth, each 260 x 205 mm Dorothea Braby contributed 56 illustrations in black and brown to 'The Labyrinth of the World'. These sketchbooks show the fertility of her invention, as well as her skilful execution and fluidity and boldness of line. Christopher Sandord notes in 'Cock-A-Hoop': "It was Dorothea Braby herself who suggested we should do the book which she greatly admired, and we readily agreed to her wish to illustrate it with pen drawings in two colours."
