Parts 1-14 (of 15) in one volume, 2° (405 x 252mm). 70 contemporary hand-coloured engraved or lithographic plates. (Lacking final quire, repair to title-page, spotting to text leaves, pencil and ink annotations to some text and 14 plates.) Modern green mosaic and gilt calf by Weitz-Coleman, New York, green cloth case.

FIRST AND ONLY EDITION OF ONE OF THE RAREST WORKS ON PARROTS. The illustrations are based on the plates in Levaillant's Histoire Naturelle des Perroquets and some at least executed by Wilhelm Mueller. Passionate ornithologist, Pastor Brehm accumulated in his house near Leipzig a collection of more than 15,000 bird skins, purchased after his death by Lord Rothschild for his Museum in Tring. Wood p. 255: "A well written and well illustrated treatise on parrots"; Nissen IVB 142. Fine Bird Books and Casey Wood cite incomplete copies; not in Anker and Zimmer.
