NOTE

Coverdale translated Bullinger's pamphlet on matrimony, Der Christlich Eestan, during his exile in Strasburg following the renewed persecution of Protestants in 1539, and it was first published in Antwerp in 1541. A number of editions (all now rare) appeared over the next eleven years. There was then a gap of thirteen years before the publication of this edition, the last to appear in the sixteenth century. The author's preface appears in variety (c). This edition may have been issued with STC 1286 (see previous lot, which is in a matching binding).
