Carl Georg Christian Schumacher(Doberan 1797-1869 Dresden) Martha Censures her Vain Sister Maria, monogrammed (in ligature) SC, faint traces of a barely legible date (1839?), Oil on canvas, 54 x 64 cm, framed, several small old peelings to the paintwork across the whole painting, damaged (Rei)Carl Georg Christian Schumacher: Studied from 1819-1821 at the Dresden Academy. In 1821-1825 he pursued his studies in Italy; in Rome he joined the Overbeck'schen circle as well as visiting both Naples and Florence. Between 1826-1830 Schumacher lived in Dresden before he established himself in Schwerin and became a court painter in Mecklenburg-Schwerin'scher. Today a number of his works can be found in the Museum in Schwerin.
